‘Uthmān reported God’s messenger as saying, “The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur’ān.” (Mishkat al-Masabih 2109)

The study of the Holy Quran provides us with guidance not only in religious but also in worldly matters. It is important to take some practical measures to read and understand the Quran in the busy life of every day. Here are a few Quran study tips:

Before reading the Quran, make the intention that this action is only to seek Allah's pleasure and guidance. Purity of intention is the basis of every act of worship, and the recitation of the Quran should also be based on this principle. If a person recites the Quran merely for show or for worldly gain, he is deprived of its true benefits and blessings. But when the intention is only to seek Allah's pleasure and guidance, the Quran creates light in the heart and blessings in life. Therefore, one should always recite the Quran with the right intention and complete sincerity in order to obtain its true benefits.

The Quran is a holy book, so perform ablution before reading it. Performing ablution before reading it is not only a sign of outward purity but also spiritually softens the heart and unifies the mind. A person who reads the Quran in a state of ablution and complete purity not only gains spiritual benefits but also becomes worthy of being close to Allah. Allah states in the Quran:

لَّا یَمَسُّهٗۤ اِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَ

- Translation: Only the purified may touch it (Quran). (Surah Waqiah, 79)

Dedicate a specific time from your busy schedule to reciting and studying the Quran. Make it a habit to read a few verses daily after Fajr, before going to bed at night, or at any other suitable time. It is important to set aside a specific time each day to read the Quran consistently. Just as we make time for our other daily activities, we should also make time to recite the Quran. The best time is after Fajr or before going to bed at night because at these moments the mind is more calm and able to focus. If we make the Quran a part of our daily routine, its impact on our lives will be significantly visible. Make it a habit to read even a few verses daily with consistency, because Allah loves actions that are consistent, even if they are small.

Read the Quran slowly and thoughtfully instead of reading it quickly. Reading with thoughtfulness makes the meaning of the verses clearer. It is mentioned in a hadith that:

يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَؤُهَا

- Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who was devoted to the Qur'an will be told to recite, ascend and recite carefully as he recited carefully when he was in the world, for he will reach his abode when he comes to the last verse he recites. (Sunan Abi Dawud 1464)

If you find it difficult to understand the Arabic language, then keep the translation of the Quran with you so that it is easier to understand the meaning of the verses. This will make the message of the Quran clearer. The main purpose of the Quran is to guide, and reading the translation is essential if we are to understand its teachings correctly. Although reciting it in Arabic is rewarding, when we read its translation, we understand its message more clearly. By reading the translation in Urdu, English, or any other language, we can know what Allah Almighty wants from us and what principles we should follow. When we read the Quran with the translation, not only will our understanding increase but also the passion to act upon it will be aroused.

It is very important to read the Quran with the correct intonation and principles of Tajweed. This can be learned from an expert reciter or online Tajweed classes.

زَيِّنُوا الْقُرْآنَ بِأَصْوَاتِكُمْ ‏

- It was narrated that Abu Bara' said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Beautify Quran with your voices.'" (Sunan an-Nasa'i 1015)

Whenever you read the Quran, think about how these verses can be applied to your life. This will make studying the Quran more interesting and practical. Whenever you read the Quran, consider how its verses can be applied to our lives. For example, if the Quran advises us to be patient, to be pious, or to speak the truth, we should consider how well we are following these instructions. The Quran is not just a religious book but a complete code of conduct for living, and when we read it in relation to our daily affairs, its teachings will seem more clear and practical to us.

If possible, make it a habit to memorize a few verses every day. This will strengthen your connection with the Quran and make it easier to perform prayers. By memorizing little by little, a large portion can be memorized over time. The person who memorizes the Quran will attain a high status in this world and the Hereafter, as it is mentioned in the hadith that on the Day of Judgment, it will be said to the memorizer of the Quran:

وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنْتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَكَ عِنْدَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَؤُهَا

- “Recite carefully as you recited carefully when you was in the world, for you will reach your abode when you comes to the last verse you recites”.(Sunan Abi Dawud 1464)

Make it a habit to read and meditate on the Quran collectively at home so that all family members can benefit from it. Make it a habit to teach children a verse every day to connect them with the Quran, and study the commentary and hadith together with the family members. This will not only instill religious enthusiasm in the children but will also create a blessed and spiritually peaceful atmosphere in the home. A home where the Quran is recited, mercy and blessings descend.

Whenever you face a problem, find a solution to it in the Quran. Allah Almighty has given the solution to all kinds of problems in His Book, we just need to understand it and believe in it. When a person turns to the Quran, Allah gives his heart peace and ease to the problems of life.

Reading the Holy Quran is a blessed act that can revolutionize a person’s spiritual, moral, and practical life. If we adopt the intention of consistency, reflection, Tajweed, translation, and action in reading the Quran in our daily lives, not only will our connection with the word of Allah be strengthened, but we will also achieve worldly and hereafter success. The Quran was revealed not only for the recitation of words but also for the understanding and adoption of the best principles of guidance and living. If we implement its teachings in our lives, it can certainly become the best source of solutions to our problems, peace of mind, and the pleasure of Allah.
